FREETHORPE U8s

A disappointing performance ended the year with a heavy defeat at the hands of a good Pakefield B side, after 2 or 3 games which has shown progress we unfortunately reverted to the poorer performances of earlier this year. The final score ended at 7 - 1 and had we taken the few chances we created the score would have been more respectable, this would have hidden the facts that we lost our shape and concentration on far too many occasions. In the past few weeks our passing and tackling had created us more chances which we took well, but today easy chances went begging. Ashley H scored our only goal, and once again Curtis B deserved the MOM award tackling and covering well in both midfield and defence, below par performances by the rest of the side contributed to the defeat. After our first year on a steep learning curve, it is time for all to enjoy the Christmas break, and come back in the New Year with a return to our improved performances of the past few weeks.

This week played Gorleston Rangers B away in the league. As usual when these two teams meet a exciting and close match materialised.
From the start Rangers looked the more lively attacking down the hill. Luke had to come quickly off his line to clear the ball early on. Alex, Perry and Liam S all defended well and with strength and determination. Rangers did manage to score once with a high shot over Luke.
Thomas and Reece well assisted by Aaron having another good game then took over. Thomas in particular worked hard up front and caused Rangers difficulties. Reece then quickly combined with Thomas for Thomas to score 2 great goals for Freethorpe to lead 2-1 at the break.
The second half saw Freethorpe storm forward and quickly get there 3rd goal, Thomas hat-trick after good work from Reece again.
Freethorpe then decided they had won the game and switched off. Rangers got one back after a defensive mix up to make for an exciting last ten minutes.
Luke in goal then snatched M.O.M away from Thomas with a outstanding display of goalkeeping including three great diving saves to keep Rangers out and secure a good victory for Freethorpe 3-2.

A very good performance from Freethorpe Under 8's eventually saw them lose out by 6 - 5 in what was a very exciting game with great team work against a strong Burnt Hill 95 side. In a game that we were always behind in, it was very pleasing to see the fighting spirit that pushed our opponents to the limit and had them clinging on to the final whistle. On a day when an outstanding goalkeeping display and the woodwork prevented us from recording our third straight victory, there were very good displays from Kirby G who tackled and ran throughout and contributed a well worked goal, again William J contributed strongly running from the back and Oliver M ran well with the ball and scored his usual goal, Brandon F although beaten by some good finishing from Burnt Hill made several positive saves. Our 2 subs. Ashley S & H played there part, but it was Curtis B who again turned in the MOM performance with strong running, tackling and passing and this week scoring his first hat trick for the club. Continuing performances of this calibre should bring us more victories in the future.

Match Report Sunday 5th December 2004-12-05 Home V S.C.Rangers
Score Won 5-3

This Sunday Freethorpe were at home to league leaders s.c.rangers.Freethorpe, with a full squad of players to choose from started the game very slowly, S.C.Rangers, who were unbeaten coming into todays game were handed an early opportunity to take the lead,Freethorpe failing to clear their area allowed Rangers to score an easy goal. Freethorpe who had lost to Rangers 12-2 earlier in the season then rolled their sleeves up and started to play some good attacking football. The defence was holding firm with Dominic,Dan,Mattie, and Harry all tackling suberbly.Freethorpe were playing with confidence and were pushing Rangers back when a goal mouth scramble resulted with the ball going into the Rangers net off one of their defenders. Virtually from the kick off Freethorpe pushed up field and with the front two of Josh and Biddy connecting well passed the ball around and Biddy scored to put us up 2-1. Adam in goal made a couple of good stops and the midfield were starting to control the game for us, both James D and Callum were having their best games and Sam and Ben were defending our goal and also creating all the openings. As half time neared another excellent move involving half the team put Josh through on goal and shot hit the back of the net, half time came with Freethorpe ahead 3-1. Peter came on for the second half and kept his mark on their winger, and bringing on Cyrus to replace the hard working Callum, the second half started much the same as the first with Rangers threatening the Freethorpe goal but this time the boys held firm and with another Freethorpe attack involving Ben again ended with Sam scoring our 4th.Rangers replied soon after with a sloppy goal to give away, but yet again full credit to the lads who held their heads high throughout the game.As the game moved towards the end Freethorpe scored their best yet , a brilliant move again involving half the team ended when Sam hit a thunder bolt from outside the box.As the was coming to a close Rangers were awarded a freekick outside the box, and their player caught the ball well and it flew into our net. Final score 5-3 to Freethorpe. An excellent game played in the right spirit by both teams,Ben was man of the match, for his tackling and vision when going forward but it was hard to choose between the whole team, well done.Feet back on the floor, another hard game next week with Yarmouth away.
