FREETHORPE GIRLS U12s

FREETHORPE GIRLS U12s
This week it was the U12 girls to take their bow with their first game ever for Freethorpe F.C against Martham. There were actually 4 under 12 girls the rest coming from the under 11s.
The game started with both teams assessing the opposition with cagey play. Martham looked the more confident team and quickly went 2-0 up. Freethorpe then upped the tempo and defended well with Georgia G looking sharp and alert tackerling and clearing well. Elizabeth G again defending well with some excellent last ditch tackles. Charlotte B and Megan S both worked hard in midfield trying to stop Martham from pushing forward. Lauren S playing up front on her own tried hard to attack but lacked support as Martham pushed Freethorpe back. Rebekah G worked tirelessly all over the pitch tackerling and starting play off.
Late on in the first half Martham again scored twice despite the excellent Isabel S in goal having a great game. The second half saw Freethorpe play better with Megan S growing with confidence. Jessica H worked hard when she came on for the team. Erin K tried to find some space and held position well against a Good Martham defence. Claire A dropped into midfield nicely and had a couple of decent runs down the centre.
Martham however managed to score 3 more times in the second half despite some great defending from Georgia G and Elizabeth G and a great goalkeeping display from Isabel S.

FREETHORPE U10S

FREETHORPE U10s
Played there first game of the season against Bungay at home. Freethorpe started well with the team looking sharp against large opposition. Luke H in goal looked assured with some great handerling and big kicks. Liam S was quickly withdrawn with a pre-match foot injury. Reece C, Ronnie B and particularly Thomas H looked lively and a threat to Bungay. Thomas H scored well after a great pass from Ronnie B for Freethorpe to take the lead. Freethorpe looked in control of the match with Perry K working hard down the right flank putting in some good crosses and Reece C working hard in midfield. Bungay kept trying and forced some good defending from Ollie D and Aaron C. Alex P again imposed his presence in the game with strength and composure.
Just before half time Bungay equalised which again stung Freethorpe into action with Reece C scoring from a great long range shot to go in at the break 2-1 up.
The second half saw Bungay equalise quickly which seemed to freeze Freethorpe for the next 15 minutes and saw Bungay score twice more to lead 4-2. Will-of-the-wisp Liam D tried to lift the team with his pace and enthusiasm. it wasn't until the final minutes that the promising Ronnie B scored after a defensive mix up. This woke up the team and late on Freethorpe were unlucky not to equalise. A game Freethorpe should have won but didn't result lost 3-4.

FREETHORPE U11s GIRLS

FREETHORPE U11s GIRLS.
A historic day for Freethorpe F.C when the U11 girls became the first female team to ever play football for the club.
After much hard work by Mandy Morris and Jane Smith(both FA Level 1 coaches) total commitment from a great bunch of girls, support from parents and sponsorship from Moulton Nurseries. the U11 stepped out to face Shrublands at Southtown Common at 2pm on Sunday.
The excitement and anticipation of all involved was both refreshing and inspirational and was a great advertisement for the FA to get girls and women involved in our National Sport.
The game started and Shrublands pushed forward in numbers the Freethorpe defence of Elizabeth G, Rebekah G and Ellan P all kept position well, tackled hard and cleared the ball well.
Olivia S showed good control and made some good runs from midfield. Melissa H tackled hard and closed Shrublands down with Erin K up front on her own who worked hard to hold the ball up, pass and bring others into the game. After ten minutes with a even game flowing from end to end Rebekah moved forward to have a good shot. Shortly afterward Shrublands attacked and scored after a good move.
Some great defending especially by Elizabeth G kept Shrublands out as they attacked strongly in numbers for the score to remain at 1-0 at half-time.
Rolling substitutions were made throughout the game giving all the girls a taste of the action.
The second half continued to be a very even and sporting match a testament to both teams Isabel S in goal had a great match making two great saves in the second half and kicking well throughout the match.
Molly D and Jessica H both played well working hard for the team and holding position well. Lilly B defended well and Clair A slotted into midfield nicely. Shrublands scored their second goal midway through the second period to win 2-0. All the girls can be proud and pleased with there performances special mention to Rebekah G and Elizabeth G who were both outstanding.
