freethorpe u12s runners up in acle 5-a side 2006 Posted by Picasa

freethorpe u12s

Freethorpe U12's having played at U13 level last season and finding it a little bit difficult entered the Acle Tournament with the younger half of the team and came runners-up to Shrublands. They put in a fantastic performance which was made all the more brilliant because there had been no training or preparation for this. In the group stages they were undefeated conceding only two goals despite having to force/bribe an outfield player to be goalie for a day. In the Semi's they overcame a very good Pakefield side in a penalty shootout. In the final they played an even better Shrublands side and only lost out in a sudden death penalty shootout. Credit must go to Shrublands who fully deserved the win as our keeper could have been sent off for handling outside the box and they accepted the referees decision when many would have not. Well done to Callum Boggis, Dan McGrath, Dominic Smith, Sam Coleman, Luke Thacker and Harry Wyatt. Next season we will stay at this age group ie U13's, however we still need more players to make up the squad especially a goalkeeper. Please telephone Darren on (01493) 700957 if interested. Thanks to all the teams we played as many of the games were fast and furious with plenty of tackles especially in the semi-final. Our next definite booked tournament at this present time is the Canary five-a-side on Saturday 15th July at The Powerleague, Bowthorpe. More details later.
