FREETHORPE U13S

FREETHORPE U13's gained their first win of the New Year in an end to end game against Gorleston Rangers B that could certainly have gone either way. Trailing 1-0 at half-time Freethorpe made changes placing Sam up front with Dominic and moving Ben into midfield. This paid off when Sam equalised with a good finish. Gorleston then fought back and scored, only then for James Dowsett to equalise with some good football having picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box. From then on Freethorpe always looked good going forward and went on to win 4-2. Sam got a hat trick following two more good finishes. However Gorleston remained dangerous when going forward, a point emphasised when a Freethorpe move broke up on the penalty box and Dominic in centre forward position ran the length of the field, past his midfield and defence and headed the ball of the line. Well done to all the players.

FREETHORPE U16s

Freethorpe found ourselves 1-0 down very early on. After 23 seconds from the kick off. But with some encouragement from each other and from the management on the sidelines Freethorpe drew level after 8 mins though Liam cool persistance going round the goalkeeper to slot home our first. Our second goal came from a throw in which was eventually crossed after good build up play, to Tom N who smashed the ball home. Freethorpe took an even bigger lead in the 34th minute when Tom B headed in from a Chris flick on which came from a good cross from Brandon. 3-1 up at Half-Time. Scotty got his 4th goal from the penalty spot this season after a Hempnall player handelled the ball in the area. With Freethorpe 3 goals up thinking they could relax, Hempnall were awarded a freekick in their own half which was taken quickly. The Freethorpre back four weren't expecting it and allowed Hempnall to score. But almost immediately Captain Tom N scored with an outstanding effort from about 30yards out, which sailed into the top left corner of the net. I thought that both goalkeepers played outstandingly. My MOM goes to Scotty. SUPERB!!! Next Game: away to Gorleston. Date and time TBA.

FREETHORPE U12 GIRLS

Gorleston Rangers V Freethorpe (under 12 girls)

Freethorpe started the game playing uphill, putting Rangers under pressure from the start but were unable to convert the early pressure into a good goal scoring chance. Rangers came closest to opening the scoring and hit a good shot just past the post, Freethorpe responded with a good effort from Megan. Rangers then took the lead slightly against the run of play with a good shot that squeezed in Isabel’s near post. Freethorpe continued to work hard with Louise covering every blade of grass and Charlotte looking assured at the back. Freethorpe came close to equalising after good work from Lauren Rebekah’s shot skimmed the outside of the post. Rangers then broke away and an almost identical move saw them increase their lead to 2-0.
Freethorpe Kicked off the second half going downhill hoping to use this to their advantage however went further behind early in the second half. Georgia and Elizabeth looked well organised at the back and with Megan once again looking strong and dominant just ahead of them the team had to withstand further pressure from Rangers. Emily returned to the fray and her effort and running created a half chance for Erin that went just wide, from the resultant goal kick Erin was unlucky to see her snap shot go just over. Rangers then killed the game off with a late goal.
A good evenly matched contest and if the girls keep working goals will come as defensively you have come on as a team.

FREETHORPE U11s GIRLS
Played Silfield away. Freethorpe dominated the first half with two early chances from Erin K. Rebekah G and Olivia S made excellent runs and strong tackles, Melissa H was solid in midfield tackling and passing the ball well. In the 15th minute Erin K scored after some great passing moves with Rebekah G.
The second half saw Silfield try to get back into the game but Ellan P and Elizabeth G defended well with Libby B dominating her goal area. Molly D and Jessica H appeared as subs in defence and midfield and played a strong role. Freethorpe continued pushing forward and defending to keep the score 1-0 victory. Well done to all the girls for there never give up attitude that they have had throughout the season it finally paid off with our first win and hopefully more.
A big thank you to Marcus Smith (1st team Manager) for his help and support with training it proved today how much the girls have learnt from him.

Freethorpe u13s

Freethorpe U13's having been competitive for the last couple of months came down to earth with a big bump against a very good Bungay side losing 11-0. Freethorpe were 3-0 down at half time and it looked as if damage limitation was all that was needed for the second half. However, these tatics did not work as Bungay scored within a minute, with Freethorpe then losing a defender due to injury. Bungay then went on to score 8 more. A big well done to goalkeeper Matthew, who worked extremly hard. If only our defenders had known they are allowed to kick the ball away after the goalkeeper saved it, the score may have only been 8-0! However we must look on the positive side as it will probably be a while before we come up against another good side as this! This week away to Gorleston Rangers B.
